I began volunteering for OAS when my husband and I moved from Arkansas to Santa Fe in 2005. I perversely enjoyed washing artifacts from the Palace of the Governors, kept showing up for more punishment, and eventually realized my lofty goal of getting hired on part time.

Most of my career was spent as a research cartographer with the U.S. Geological Survey in Virginia, where I managed technical contracts for classified automated mapping systems. When we moved to Russellville, Arkansas, in 1990 I wasn't ready to sit back and relax. I worked as a mapper for the Forest Service, planning commission coordinator for the city of Russellville, and a technical writer for the Environmental Enterprise Group, and finally found my dream job as museum exhibits specialist at Arkansas Tech University's Museum of Prehistory and History. I researched and designed exhibits relating to archaeology and the history of Native Americans in Arkansas. I also joined the local archaeological society, headed by Dr. Skip Abernathy, and went on several digs in the Pope County area.

At OAS I have worked on the Palace of the Governors project for Steve Post, the Civic Center project for Steve Lentz and Steve Post, and the Railyard project for Steve Post, primarily washing, processing, and curating artifacts, with limited mapping and computer work thrown in. It's all good, and the crazy people I work with continue to make it so!
