I was lucky enough to begin working at OAS on the Gallo project, near Quemado, New Mexico, which that had some of the best preservation of any site excavated in the Southwest. This was the start of a rewarding journey in which I've sorted through the cultivated and wild plants used by inhabitants of our arid land dating from the Archaic period into historic time.

I have been part of the Pojoaque Corridor and the Palace of the Governors projects. The Pojoaque Corridor project is particularly engaging since it has given us an opportunity to investigate subsistence in the upper Rio Grande Valley and compare it to that of lower and middle Rio Grande adaptations. Exciting preliminary results from the Palace project document early Spanish plant use of European imports as well as New World wild and domesticated plants. In the future, I would love to see the OAS Ethnobotany Laboratory more involved in public education.
